New Amsterdam Market...

New York's new seaport public market, a non-profit organization whose mission is to establish a year-round, indoor public market where butchers, grocers, fish and cheese mongers, and other purveyors will help create and foster a sustainable* food system in the City of New York. You can donate, become a member, volunteer or become an advisor of the New Amsterdam Market , still in GGP's proposal stages, and will need government approval to move forward.

*Sustainability - is an important goal and a complex term whose meaning continues to evolve. Yet its underlying premise remains simple: to produce what we consume without depleting natural resources, reducing or compromising biodiversity, or contaminating the soil, air, and water on which all life on earth depends.

Freeman's Restaurant...

At the end of an elusive alley on the LES, Freeman's Restaurant is a low-profile, long-wait favorite. Brunch, dinner, big group or just dinner for two, I could eat here every week. Order up Devils on Horseback, Wild-Boar Terrine, Artichoke dip and idle in the warm interior that is has a hunting lodge feel.

House tour in Rhody...

In this month's Domino Magazine, I love the sustainable, laid-back Matunuck home with Scandanavian overtones. Matunuck is a quaint little spot near Narragansett, known for being one of New England's favorite surf communities.

The best Margarita ever...

My summer cocktail of choice is a margarita. Making them is easy!

1.4 oz tequila (My favorite is Don Julio Reposado)
1 oz Cointreau
.6 oz freshly squeezed lime juice
T sugar

Combine the ingredients in a cocktail shaker with ice. Pour into chilled glass. Salting the rim or not, whatever your like;)
