Chicago + The Band...

Well, I'm enjoying lovely weather in Chicago, it is a frequent stop lately for work. Along with a dozen meetings, I was able to see David Gray and Ray LaMontagne live last night. (Amazing)! More great music tonight, as one of the agencies I work with has a band, and is performing. We rehearsed a few songs together, so it seems I'll be singing and accompanying them on stage. Oh my! {image via the electric}

ps. The "10 Things I Loved This Week" will return next Thursday when I'm back in NYC. xo

Guest Blogger: Casey from Loft + Cottage...

Thanks, Sarah, for inviting me to share some design tips with your readers!

As a working interior designer, I enjoy sharing my decorating ideas, resources, and inspirations on my blog, and I adore visiting you here for even more beautiful inspiration on everything from food to fashion to travel to decor.

Some of my favorite room inspirations are kitchens, and some of the most creative kitchens you can find are super-small. I love seeing how a tiny space can showcase gorgeous style and still preserve function. Here's some ways to achieve that balance in your own space, if you happen to have a too-small kitchen that's cramping your style.

{top 5 tips for a small kitchen}
1. Use small-scale appliances. Choose a smaller sink. Get an undercounter fridge. Choose the 30" range instead of the 36".
2. Ditch the upper cabinets. Open up the room with floating shelves. Just be sure to organize, and group like items together.
3. Consider the power of mirrors to open up a tiny space.
4. Keep colors consistent. A simple palette on cabinets and countertops keeps the eye moving and expands a room.
5. Don't forget to decorate! Lean platters and trays, bring in flowers and fruit, and add framed pictures and canvases—a kitchen should reflect your style as much as any other room in your home. {images via house beautiful, thom filicia}

Thinking of Rome...

I have always wanted to visit Italy. I saw Eat, Pray, Love this weekend with girlfriends and can't stop thinking about eating, cooking and traveling in Rome. Let's go!

Stay:

New York Times Restaurant Recommendations:
Antica Pesa, Via Garibaldi, 18. A combination of traditional and more modern food. Supposedly a celebrity haunt, but it seemed pretty down-to-earth.
Giolitti, Via Uffici del Vicario, 40. An old classic for gelato. Try the rice and chocolate flavors.
Le Mani in Pasta, Via dei Genovesi, 37. Off the beaten track in Trastevere, but worth the trip. Mostly locals, and excellent food.
Pierluigi, Piazza dé Ricci, 144. Really popular and good for people watching.
Roscioli, Via dei Giubbonari, 21. Really fabulous bakery and restaurant for lunch or dinner. If you go at lunch, they will bring out a big thing of risotto — and within minutes it’s gone.
San Crispino, Via della Panetteria, 42. For inventive, modern gelato.
Sangallo ai Coronari, Via dei Coronari, 180. More creative cuisine combined with traditional. Nice patio.

Scoot Around on a Vespa: Barberini Scooters, Via della Purificazione, 84

Walking Tour of the Eternal City: I Love Rome
Cooking Classes: Italian Gourmet
Wine Tasting: Vino Roma
Outdoor Market: Campo dei Fiore
