History is by definition 'all that is remembered of the past as preserved in writing; a body of knowledge' or 'An academic study of the past or the product of our attempts to understand the past, rather than the past itself'. In The New Yorker, literary critic Jill Lepore writes an article about fake memoirs, factual fictions, and the history of history. She discusses how the boundary between history and fiction have changed since the 18th century and comments on books, novels and the space between. Quoting Godwin, Austen, Defoe and Kagan among others it's an interesting debate.

London Calling for Francie...
I had dinner with my friend last night who is packing up her Chelsea studio in NYC and jet setting to London for a wonderful cooking class experience at Leiths School of Food and Wine, and a fantastic adventure. It's been years since I went galavanting on Kings Road and Kensington Square in high fashion and fury, with my handsome British boyfriend at 22. A bit inspired to branch out beyond my infamous british accent attempts, I decided to peruse what's new and what to do over in London, for her benefit, and mine when I go visit her in the new digs! Spa season...
Winter is tapering off and spring is near...but alas the temperatures have yet to rise. Here are a few of the best known destination spas for rejuvenation and relaxation:The Lodge at Woodloch - Just a couple hours from New York City, this location is set on 75 acres in Pennsylvania’s Lake Region and features flourishing forests, a private lake and a 40,000-square-foot treatment facility. In addition to spa packages their activities range from kayaking, hiking, pilates, golf, tennis, art classes and even story time. Rates range from $350 to $985 per night.
The Tides Riviera Maya - The intimate five-star eco-sensitive resort has all the frills. Located just outside Playa Del Carmen, bordered with the world's second largest barrier reef, Tides has 29 private villas centered around a circular spa. With offerings ranging from a Mayan temazcal sweat lodge to daily yoga classes overlooking a seven-mile stretch of beach you won't want to leave. Rates from $700-$2600 per night. Don't forget your passport!Canyon Ranch, Berkshires - Set in the hills of Lenox Massachusetts, just 150 miles from New York City and 135 miles from Boston, the estate does not include any canyons or ranches, but it certainly is a quiet oasis surrounded by woods and rolling hills. The rooms are average, but the relaxation factor and coupled with beautiful spa facilities and activities abundant make this a perfect retreat. A 3-night stay ranges from $2040 to $5480.
