Planning a trip to Whistler Blackcomb...

A couple years ago, I took a trip to Whistler Blackcomb for a friend's bday. We flew from SF to Vancouver and drove to Whistler where we rented an amazing house that slept 12 for a long weekend. It's one of my favorite mountains to ski. I can't wait for round II (hopefully in the near future). Here are a few tips from NY Mag for your trip - on where to ski, eat and relax.

Runs: Whistler Blackcomb has two mountains, appropriately enough named Whistler and Blackcomb. If you are on Whistler, check out the Peak chair area, which has access to the numerous open bowls (West Bowl and Bagel Bowl) and the “Saddle,” or experience the famous Peak to Creek run (this is a fun one;). Also head over to the Symphony Amphitheatre. Year after year, the best runs on Blackcomb are Rock ’n’ Roll and Ridge Runner, which are both great for beginner and intermediate riders. For those seeking a bit more adventure, check out the terrain accessed through Spanky’s Ladder or Blackcomb Glacier. And lastly board the new Peak 2 Peak gondola, the world's highest lift. Gear: Ride on Burton Feelgood ES, while the Burton Custom X, with infinitely adjustable EST binding mounts, is excellent for Whistler Blackcomb’s varied terrain. Skiers should check out the Kästle MX98—they are big mountain skis. The Smith I/O goggles; Anon Majestic goggles and Bern for helmets.

Après-Ski Scene: My favorite is Longhorn, at the base of Whistler, where live music gets people dancing on tables in their ski boots. In the eve you can also hike up the bobsled track and watch the crazy bobsledders go by, or go moonlight ice-skating on Alta Lake. Don’t miss Garibaldi Lift Company! Dusty’s, Tommy Africa’s, and Garfinkel’s. Or just relax, and get a thai massage at Nita Lake Lodge.

Where to eat: If you are looking to splurge, try Araxi or Bearfoot Bistro. Sachi Sushi is a local favorite. Umberto’s has excellent Italian food, while Rimrock has a cozy, ski-town atmosphere. In terms of mountaintop dining, nothing beats Crystal Hut. Also check out Caramba, 21 Steps, or Sushi Village. are great for dinner. For breakfast try Elements Urban Tapas Parlour.

Hotels: The Fairmont Chateau Whistler, at the base of Blackcomb, is famous for its luxury accommodations. Adara Whistler Hotel is a funkier, boutique option or go online and find luxury house rentals!
